What is a new patient
actually worth?

The patient value calculator shows what one new patient brings the clinic over time, and what you can afford to pay to win them. Use your own clinic's figures.

    How to read the figure

Not what the patient pays today.
    What the patient is worth.

A new patient may only pay for a check-up at the first visit. But patients who stay come back year after year, need treatment and recommend the clinic to family and friends.

That is why a new-patient offer that loses money on the first visit can still be profitable. The question is not what it costs to win a new patient. The question is whether the cost is lower than what the patient is worth.

Where do I find the figures?

You'll find revenue and the number of active patients in the practice management system or the accounts. An active patient is one who has been treated in the last 18–24 months.

You can estimate the share who come back from how many attend their recall appointment. Your accountant can give you the contribution margin. If you are unsure, use cautious figures. Then the value is a floor, not a ceiling.
